Sound of London @ E&J's Pantry

The visual expression of the sounds you missed
could provide a new city experience.....

We can distinguish sounds according to what we find to be important. I believed that if I captured the sounds of famous places, even if you know the place well, you could discover a new aspect of it. Almost like a link between what one sees and the actual subjective experience of being there.

Concept:
We can distinguish sounds according to what we find to be important. I believed that if I record the sound of famous places, even if you know the place well, you could discover a new aspect of it. Almost like a link between what one sees and the actual subjective experience of being there.

Places:
I recorded the sounds of 8 of London's most famous and unique places. This included: Covent Garden; a world-renowned tourist area, Big Ben; a major international symbol, Sotheby's Auction House; one of the worlds foremost auction houses, Trafalgar Square Post Office; London was the site of the first postal system, St James's Park; especially popular due to its proximity to the Queen's palace, St Paul's Cathedral; An important place of worship, and a celebrated tourist attraction, Soho; a celebrated entertainment district, and Abbey road; made famous by the Beatles.

Colours:
The colours of the sound waves were chosen by my image of the location. Covent Garden = to show it's animated atmosphere, I chose orange. Big Ben = the colour of golden bricks. Sotheby's Auction house = yellow is the colour which Japanese people associate with money. Post Office = red being the colour of London postboxes. St James's Park = green grass and foliage. St Paul's Cathedral = quiet and tranquil navy blue. Soho = erotic colours of pink and purple. Abbey Road = asphalt black.
